St. Louis-based Express Scripts Holding Co. is the nation’s largest pharmacy benefit management organization.
“This facility is currently 20 percent occupied, and we believe we will be able to more effectively meet the needs of our clients and members by consolidating this work into our other front-end pharmacies across the country,” company spokesman Brian Henry said.
Employees at the facility on Lewis Road, in Swatara Township, were informed of the decision last month, he added. The pharmacy is slated to close Jan. 18
According to a WARN notice filed with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry, 97 employees will be idled.
“Any employee affected by this closure is welcome to apply for other open positions within our company,” Henry said.
Express Scripts has about 27,000 employees overall. Revenue in 2015 was $102 billion.
