A 13-month project to expand and renovate the Ruhl Student Center on the Penn State York campus has been completed.
Alexander Building Construction Co., part of the Allentown-based Butz Family of Companies, recently finished the 14,360-square-foot addition and renovations to the center, a $12 million project.
The project involved the demolition of a two-story portion of the original Joe & Rosie Ruhl Student Center in order to expand the center.
The addition includes a fitness center equipped with locker rooms, a kinesiology classroom, a multi-activity court and athletic faculty office space, officials with the construction company said in a news release.
An exterior amphitheater also was built adjacent to the center. Other features of the project include study/meeting rooms; a game room; upgraded HVAC systems and an upgrade to the existing gymnasium, officials also said.
Construction on the project began in August 2015, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on the campus Oct. 12 to mark the project’s completion.
The project is a “much-needed addition to the Penn State York campus, it was truly a team effort,” said Rick Seitz, president of Alexander Building Construction Co., which has offices in Harrisburg and State College.
The Butz Family of Companies, along with Alexander, includes Alvin H. Butz Inc. and Shoemaker Construction Co.
