The uncertainty surrounding COVID-19 and Higher Education has forced colleges and universities to adapt to a mostly online or hybrid environment. What will Spring and Fall 2021 look like for technology, health and safety and any legal challenges that may arise. The Future of Higher Education will delve into these challenges and highlight those industries and leaders finding solutions.
Nancy Conrad, Partner, Chair of the Higher Education Group, White and Williams LLP
For more than 25 years, Nancy has represented colleges, universities and schools in matters related to faculty, staff and students. Nancy understands the unique challenges that exist on campus and is recognized for her depth of experience in analyzing and problem-solving controversial matters. She has litigated tenure related disputes, academic integrity and student conduct cases and staff terminations. She provides proactive advice and counsel to her clients, including Presidents, Deans, Vice Presidents, the Office of General Counsel and Heads of Schools to assist them in resolving education and employment issues and making significant decisions. In addition to litigating and advising colleges and universities, Nancy serves as counsel to several colleges that do not have in-house counsel. Nancy is a certified Level 2 ATIXA Civil Rights Investigator and has led Title VII and Title IX investigation teams for higher education institutions. She is also a certified Title IX Hearing Officer & Decision-Maker.
Carolyn Lamparella, Program Director for Preferred EAP
Carolyn oversees the organization’s clinical and business functions, manages the professional counseling staff, and works personally with clients seeking behavioral health assistance. Preferred EAP counsels individuals, couples, and groups, and coaches managers struggling with employee-related or other issues. The group also consults with organizations to prepare-for, respond-to, and recover-from critical events. Lamparella received her Ed.S in Counseling Psychology from James Madison University, Harrisonburg, VA, and a specialized certification in Infant and Young Child Mental Health from the Washington School of Psychiatry, Washington, DC
Chris Howard, Manager, Advanced Technologies for Morefield Communications
Industry expert & problem solver, Chris Howard, has a fundamental understanding of technology that he utilizes each day to create success for others. With over 20 years of technology experience, Chris develops expert solutions to improve the lives of clients everyday as the Manager of Advanced Technology Services at Morefield Communications. Since he joined Morefield in 2005, his strong client focus and strategic thinking has been instrumental in integrating new technologies into Morefield’s practice. His pragmatic approach to client experience has helped shape Morefield’s team into the client-focused company it is today.
In his spare time, you can find Chris having fun with his family, embracing their love for rescue animals, and soaking in salt air whenever he can.
Dr. Ann Bieber, President of Lehigh Carbon Community College
Dr. Ann D. Bieber is the president of Lehigh Carbon Community College. She began her career at the college in 1981 and over the years held numerous positions including senior vice president of Administrative Services and dean of Continuing Education. The college currently serves more than 10,000 students in credit programs and 4,000 in noncredit programs each year.
She is committed to enhancing, improving and fostering the college’s standing as one of the region’s premiere educational institutions. Consequently, the college has been recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce for its commitment to educate Hispanic students, named a top 10 community college for instructional technology by the National Center for Digital Education and designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence is Cyber Defense.
Bryon Grisby, President of Moravian College
Bryon L. Grigsby ’90 returned to his alma mater and began his tenure as 16th president of Moravian College and Moravian Theological Seminary on July 1, 2013. During his first year, Grigsby led Moravian through a number of important initiatives that have improved and developed the academic programs, upgraded facilities, and greatly enhanced the technology infrastructure on campus. He also led the college in developing a five-year strategic plan.
Grigsby has become increasingly involved in the community surrounding Moravian College. He is a board member of the Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corporation and a member of the Bethlehem Rotary Club. Perhaps a culmination of this focus on community was Moravian being named a Top Work Place in the Lehigh Valley six out of seven years (2014-16, 2018, 2019, 2020) by The Morning Call. In addition, President Grigsby received the Leadership Award for large employers.
