Durham School Services will be lay off 90 employees at its Harrisburg facility on June 30, according to a notice it filed with the state this month.
The Lisle, Illinois-based school bus operator, announced the layoffs in a WARN notice with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry.
Durham attributed the layoffs, as well as the closure of its operations at 714 Rutherfold Lane, Harrisburg, to losing its contract with the Central Dauphin School District.
“Because of this loss of business, it is with deep regret that I notify you that Durham will cease operations effective June 30,” the company wrote in the WARN.
WARN notices, short for Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, must be filed with the state Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industries by any business with more than 100 employees that plans to lay off or furlough workers.
The layoffs will effect 12 casual drivers, two dispatchers, 72 drivers, one general manager, one maintenance supervisor and two maintenance technicians.
The company plans to offer the employees the opportunity to transfer to other Durham locations throughout the country, but will not be giving bumping rights.
