looked as solid last night as the columns that guard the entrance to the York
Water Co.
‘s ornate headquarters.

An awards ceremony inside the building suggested that
despite turnover in the leadership of key downtown institutions, the business
community remains committed to the area. The downtown-boosting agency Downtown
Inc
recognized companies and individuals for their service to the center city.

The Yorktowne Hotel was named the best company with more
than 30 employees, two years after the hotel was sold by its longtime owners.

“The organization has been very much committed to the
success of downtown,” general manager Mark Clossey said, adding it was an honor
to be embraced by the community.

John Klinedinst, the new president and chief executive
officer of the downtown engineering firm C.S. Davidson Inc., won an award for
his volunteerism. New leaders at key York
businesses picked up on their predecessors’ dedication to the city, he said.

“As long as you come up through a company (like that), you
inherited that culture,” he said.

Jeff Hines, the new president and chief executive officer of
York Water Co., said his company has been based downtown since 1816.

“The York Water Company will be committed to downtown for as
long as York is
here,” he said.

Keynote speaker Keith Orris, a vice president at Franklin & Marshall
College
in Lancaster, said cities must get momentum in
their economic-development efforts.

“Nothing beats the power of mo,” he said. “Momentum is just
key.”

Other award winners last night included White Rose Bar and Grill; York County Heritage
Trust
; Moxie Design and Marketing; Kimman’s,
a gift shop; and Eric Menzer, senior vice president of Manchester
Township-based Wagman Construction Inc.
