Attorney
McNees Wallace & Nurick LLC
A workers compensation lawyer, Elliott focuses her practice on defending self-insured employers and providing representation and counsel to clients in employment discrimination litigation, ADA/FMLA compliance, drug and alcohol testing and workplace safety and health issues.
She represents public and private sector employers in all phases of employment related litigation.
“A career in the law requires lifelong learning,” Elliott said, as the law changes, new issues arise, etc. “I always said that if I won the lottery, I would spend my days auditing college classes and learning all the new things I could. I truly love learning and the practice of law, especially employment law, allows me to incorporate that love into my career.”
Most rewarding, she said, is helping clients solve problems and find solutions, “to work through a tough issue and come out on the other side. What I find most challenging is having to play devil’s advocate with a client or give them advice they do not like or do not want to hear. … To make that easier, it is important to establish trust and show empathy.”
Elliott added: “I’ve been fortunate to have many incredible mentors … I cannot pick just one! In terms of significant lessons – even when arguing, be respectful; be responsive; do what you say you will; be honest; and find the things and the people that bring you joy and surround your life with them.”
