As CEO and owner of Mowery, Cross considers his primary responsibility to be setting the strategic vision for the company and developing and maintaining the company’s culture. In addition, he assumes the role of guaranteeing that the company continues to operate within established parameters and delivers on the promises we make to our clients and partners.
He has served as COO or CEO since 2015.
“As a contractor, there is great satisfaction in building remarkable structures,” Cross said. However, he receives his greatest satisfaction out of building remarkable businesses, and, as a result, amazing cultures. His disciplined approach has been to always work on the business and not in it.
His greatest professional mentor was and is Jack Kay. “I worked for Jack as a young man. I would say that his greatest gift to me was to not fear failure. He showed me to that there is an answer to every issue, you just have to have the tenacity to find it,” Cross said.
“The construction industry is not for everyone. It is extremely challenging but also extremely rewarding. This industry is only suited for those who are passionate about ‘building things.’ There is nothing more satisfying then looking back on something you built.”
