Chernow has served as Select Medical’s president and CEO for nine years. In this role, he is responsible for building, maintaining and sustaining a company culture that upholds its mission, vision and values and supports its more than 50,000-person workforce in a way that “inspires excellence in everything we do from bedside to boardroom”.
Additionally, Chernow oversees the company’s growth strategy, which includes the establishment of joint venture partnerships with some of the most preeminent health care systems in the country to provide critical post-acute care services that restore quality of life for the patients and communities the health system serves.
He says the nursing labor shortage posed a significant resource challenge across the health care sector in 2022, yet Select Medical never compromised on the delivery of exceptional care in its hospitals, outpatient centers and occupational medicine clinics. “We were nimble and innovative in ways that supported our workforce to remain committed to our mission to serve others in their time of need. During this tumultuous time, we also continued to close joint venture transactions that allowed the company to grow,” Chernow says.
