Dauphin County-based hotel developer Areya Management has broken ground on its latest project, an 88-room SpringHill Suites by Marriott in the Chambersburg area.

Franklin County-based Brechbill & Helman Construction Co. Inc. is the general contractor on the four-story hotel, which will be located off Exit 17 of Interstate 81 in Franklin County.

The 57,426-square-foot hotel, expected to open next summer, will include an indoor pool, a fitness room, a business center and buffet bar. It also will feature a front patio with fire pit as well as a rear patio area.

In addition, the 2.6-acre site will have car-charging stations and a drive-thru canopy.

Construction partners on the SpringHill Suites project include Meister-Cox Architects of Wyomissing and the York office of Susquehanna Township-based civil engineering firm Snyder, Secary & Associates LLC.

Areya has been active in recent months as the lodging industry nationwide continues to bounce back from the last economic downturn. Areya is building a Home2 Suites by Hilton in Silver Spring Township. The company also has a Hotel Indigo in the works to replace a Wyndham Garden in Swatara Township.

It recently converted a few Harrisburg-area hotels to other brands, including the La Quinta that sits next to the new Home2 site. And it transformed a Microtel Inn in Enola into a Best Western.

Other local companies also have been busy in hotel development. Players include York County-based Springwood Hospitality, State College-based Shaner Hotel Group and High Hotels, part of Lancaster County-based High Real Estate Group.

Most of the new hotels in the midstate have been tied to the Marriott and Hilton hotel chains. The two companies have been looking to introduce their latest brands to smaller markets.
