Conway is an expert in procurement law, entrepreneurship, intellectual property law and licensing intellectual property. She joined Penn State Dickinson Law in 2019 after serving for four years as dean of the University of Maine School of Law.

“The pandemic, the most recent era of racial reckoning, and the attacks on democracy and democratic institutions have changed the landscape of legal education and the legal profession,” Conway said. “The crises … today require lawyers, legal institutions and law-affiliated organizations to meet and exceed their special duty to improve the ‘quality of justice’ for all, especially the most vulnerable in society.”

Most challenging, she said, “is persuading members of our community and our profession to think and act more collectively to improve the law by intentionally working to create more access to the legal system.” That means moving beyond self-interest to reform the law to strengthen communities, with a targeted focus on those who are especially at risk.
