Cumberland County business groups narrow director searches

The Cumberland Area Economic Development Corp. (CAEDC) has narrowed its search for a new tourism director to three candidates, said Gary Eichelberger, a county commissioner and a member of the screening committee.

The Cumberland Area Economic Development Corp. (CAEDC) has narrowed its search for a new tourism director to three candidates, said Gary Eichelberger, a county commissioner and a member of the screening committee.

The names of the candidates are not being released at this time, but CAEDC’s board of directors could vote on a new director by its Sept. 15 meeting. That depends on whether final presentations from candidates Thursday to the screening and tourism committees yield a clear choice for the position, Eichelberger said.

The board received seven applications for the position but interviewed five people and narrowed it to three candidates based on those interviews, he said.

CAEDC hired Peter Seibert to be tourism director in late April, and he began the job on May 4. Seibert resigned from the position May 8, but CAEDC directors say they do not know his specific reasons for leaving.

In related leadership news, the search continues at the Hampden Township-based West Shore Chamber of Commerce for someone to replace President Ed Messner when he retires at the end of the year, said Tammy McCrae, the chamber’s executive vice president and program director.

The chamber’s board has several candidates and continues to thoroughly review each one, she said. The board of directors is not sharing additional information at this time, she said.
