Comcast introduces faster internet speeds in York County

Residential and business Comcast customers in York County now have access to an internet service four times the speed of what was previously available.

The new service will deliver speeds up to 1 gigabit-per-second (Gbps) and will be among the fastest and most widely available, said Bob Grove, a Comcast spokesman. The service also includes access to a national Wi-Fi network of more than 19 million hotspots.

Comcast introduced faster speeds to parts of Lancaster County and Harrisburg area last year.

The new service will cost $104.95 per month without a term contract for residential users. The promotional price will be $89.99 per month for 12 months. And much like last year’s rollout to other counties in Central Pennsylvania, business pricing will vary based on location or number of locations to be served and the services to which the business currently subscribes.

All customers will have to have a new DOCSIS 3.1-cable modem installed to gain access to the service.

“Faster and more accessible connectivity enhances our competitive advantage as a region and leads to an increasingly more employable, skilled, entrepreneurial and enterprising workforce,” CEO of York County Economic Alliance Kevin Schreiber said in a statement.

Comcast plans to bring faster speeds to Scranton, Williamsport, Hamburg, Pottsville, Gettysburg, Huntingdon, Lock Haven and Waynesboro, later this year.
