Commonwealth Professor of Law and Business Advising
Widener University Commonwealth Law School

“Society entrusts the resolution of its most difficult and important problems to lawyers,” said Johnson, a former dean of the law school. An individual with marital or child custody issues consults a lawyer. If someone wants to sell a business, “a lawyer will be involved in ensuring that the sale is done properly. If an individual risks losing his liberty, a lawyer is often the first call that the individual makes.”

As law professors, Johnson said, “we turn ambitious, idealistic and bright students into professionals. They come into law school with only the most basic understanding of the role of the lawyer, and leave with the speaking, writing and research skills necessary to zealously represent their clients,” which is an exciting transformation.

Ralph Mabey, a former federal bankruptcy court judge and Johnson’s business ethics professor when he was an undergraduate, “transformed my vision of what my career could become. … As he taught me, counseled me, recommended me and befriended (me), he enabled me to reach my true potential.”
