August unemployment rates in all four Central Pennsylvania metropolitan areas declined compared to a year ago, according to the state Center for Workforce Information and Analysis. Lancaster and Lebanon had the lowest seasonally-adjusted unemployment rates in the region, at 3.6 percent, down from 3.9 percent and 4.1 percent a year ago, respectively. York-Hanover had the highest rate, at 4.1 percent, down from 4.5 percent a year ago. Among Pennsylvania’s 14 metropolitan areas, Lancaster and Lebanon tied State College for the lowest unemployment rate in the state. Central Pennsylvania rates trail the statewide rate of 5 percent, and the U.S. rate of 4.9 percent.
