Central Penn Business Journal’s parent company to be sold

In a email to employees today, the owners of the Central Penn Business Journal said that its parent company, Journal Multimedia, has accepted an offer to sell the company to Gatehouse Media.

Gatehouse, based in Pittsford, N.Y., owns more than 500 newspapers across 31 states. In Pennsylvania, the company owns the Erie Times-News and and The Record-Herald in Waynesboro, among other papers.

“This is a great opportunity for all of our brands under the JM umbrella,” said David A. Schankweiler, CEO of JM and publisher of the Central Penn Business Journal, which he founded in 1984. “I’m excited for the new opportunities for our readers and advertisers.”

Schankweiler and Lawrence M. Kluger, JM’s president, declined to comment further.

In addition to the Central Penn Business Journal, JM publishes Central Penn Parent, Lehigh Valley Business, NJBIZ and Pet Age magazine. It also operates Best Companies Group and FGV Media.
