Carlisle Companies Inc., the North Carolina-based parent of
Carlisle SynTec Inc. in Cumberland County, plans to close its Canadian brake-shoe plant
in Brandtford, Ontario, the Hamilton Spectator reported.

About 48 people will lose their jobs when the plant closes,
according to the Spectator. The company will outsource the work to a
manufacturer in St. Louis.
Carlisle Companies’ manufacturing operations have been hit
hard by the recession. Fourth quarter earnings were down 68 percent from the
year-ago quarter, and the company froze wages at the end of 2008 following
several layoffs.
Carlisle Companies’ construction materials segment includes
Carlisle SynTec, a maker of roofing materials. The transportation products
segment includes Carlisle Tire & Wheel Co., a tire maker.
Carlisle Companies stock is traded on the New York Stock
Exchange under the ticker symbol CSL.
