Brown Golf adds course near Philadelphia to its portfolio

A Hampden Township-based golf management company will start running a municipal course near Philadelphia to kick off the new year.

Brown Golf Management will assume management of the Lederach Golf Club in Montgomery County on Jan. 1, replacing longtime manager Billy Casper Golf.

Owned by Lower Salford Township, Lederach will be the third municipal course in the Brown Golf portfolio. Lederach is an 18-hole, par 71 links-style golf course that opened in 2006 and stretches to 7,025 yards.

With the addition, Brown Golf now oversees 27 golf courses in seven states, including six courses in Pennsylvania. At the beginning of 2018, the Cumberland County company added the Great Bear Golf Club in Monroe County to its management portfolio.

Brown’s portfolio also spans Vermont, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Missouri and Florida. In addition to managing courses, the company owns or leases more than half of the courses in its portfolio.

CEO John Brown said the company has grown to more than 650 employees, with expectations to add about 5 percent more staffing in 2019. Brown Golf recently opened a second corporate office in Kissimmee, Florida.

“Our focus for 2019 will be to continue to look for acquisition opportunities while increasing our focus on submitting more request for proposal opportunities with township, municipal and city-owned golf facilities,” he said.
