The Bon-Ton Stores Inc. today reported that comparable-store
sales, or sales at stores that have been open for at least a year, fell 0.9
percent in April when compared to the year-ago period.

Township, York
County-based company reported total sales of $209.2 million for the four-week
period that ended May 3. That is down 1.3 percent when compared to the $211.9
million that the company reported in the year-ago period.
The company also reported that comparable-store sales for
the first quarter of fiscal 2008 decreased 4.6 percent. Total sales for the
quarter fell 5.1 percent from the same period last year, to $700.2 million.
