Bids for Dover Area High School’s new building come in under budget

Dover Area High School’s construction bids for its new building have come in $557,000 under the projected budget.

General construction and electrical for the budgeted $56,4200,000 project was awarded to Lobar, Inc. of Carroll Township, said the project’s manager Scott Cousin.

Site construction was awarded to York Excavating Company LLC, HVAC to Matchline Mechanical LLC, plumbing to Myco Mechanical LLC.

The project’s architectural firm Crabtree, Rohrbaugh & Associates said as a result of the low bids, the school district selected some of the alternates that were recommended for the budgeted $56,420,000 project while still remaining under budget.

One of those options includes synthetic turf for a multipurpose field.

The new 291,000 square-foot building’s design includes space for 1,400 students, a 1,000-seat auditorium with orchestra pit, 1,500-seat gymnasium with an elevated running track and a six-lane natatorium.

Dover Area High School’s new building will be built near the existing intermediate school. Once the new building is constructed, the intermediate school, which was built in 1964 and had some renovations in 1981, will be demolished.

The current building for the Dover Area High School will be renovated beginning this summer, to serve as the new middle school. The existing high school was built in 1928 and had some renovations or additions in 1959, 1974, 1990, and 2002, said Cousin.

The renovation project to convert the existing high school into a middle school is still in its early design phases.

Construction on the new high school will begin this summer and is scheduled to be complete for the 2020-2021 school year.
