BB&T Corp. and SunTrust Banks Inc. chose Truist as their name after the two companies complete their planned $28 billion merger, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday.
Truist, if approved by banking regulators, would become the sixth-largest U.S. commercial bank, according to Bloomberg.

The effects of the name-change could ripple into the midstate. BB&T moved into Central Pennsylvania in 2015 when it acquired Susquehanna Bank for $2.5 billion. As of August 2018, the North Carolina-based bank operated 69 branches in Central Pennsylvania, but previous Business Journal reporting states that it planned to close branches throughout last year.
