Barry D. Buckingham
Executive Director
Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council (PHC4)
As executive director Buckingham’s role is to direct operations and support the excellent PHC4 team so that they can continue to effectively collect, analyze, and publicly report quality and cost related health care data in the Commonwealth. He also works with the various constituencies represented on the council to understand their perspectives which, in turn, inform its efforts.
He has held the position for one month.
He is proud to have served on the four-person committee that started the Life Lion Aeromedical Service in 1986. More recently, Buckingham was a part of the PA Clinical Network which started as an idea and grew to 60 practices with nine payer contracts with seven payers across the Commonwealth of PA.
“When I was five, my father took me with him to the hospital. Upon entering the facility, he spoke to the janitor. I asked him why he spoke to that man when he {my dad} was a doctor. He looked me in the eyes and said, ‘Everyone is important’,” Buckingham said.
He volunteers with the Rotary Club of Colonial Park, The PA National Fire Museum and Someone To Tell It To. “I volunteer for the sense of accomplishment of helping others and the comradery. I also like sports watching and live music, which are diversions from daily life,” he said.
