David J. Freedman has been appointed chair of Barley Snyder’s Education Practice Group, taking over for William J. Zee, who left the Lancaster-based firm in July.

Freedman, who was recently named to the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s newly created COVID-19 Task Force, will lead Barley Snyder’s team of more than a dozen attorneys providing full-service counsel to education entities at all levels. He brings a background in higher education practice, including Title IX compliance and investigations at public and private colleges, according to a statement released by the firm Monday.

“David is more than suited to take on this leadership role,” Barley Snyder managing partner Jeff Lobach said in a statement announcing Freedman’s appointment. “David has worked with clients who serve students from pre-K through graduate school. In his time at the firm, he has proven himself a diligent worker, a respected member of the community and an excellent attorney. We have full confidence in David leading our education practice into the future.”

Freedman said Barley Snyder’s education practice group is recognized as one of the best among law firms in central Pennsylvania, and he seeks to continue and grow that reputation. The group covers a wide range of K-12 education services, including school board solicitors and college employment.

“Our plan is not just to continue that level of excellence and client service, but also to help it grow,” Freedman said in a statement released by the firm. “I believe we have the experienced team that can accomplish that.”
