Bank branches expanding, changing hands

There are changes coming to two bank branches in the midstate.

Orrstown Financial Services Corp., which has a loan production office in Lancaster County, is ready to expand its presence at the branch by operating as a full-service retail center.

The Shippensburg-based holding company for Orrstown Bank has applied to the Pennsylvania Department of Banking and Securities to start taking deposits at its branch at 2098 Spring Valley Road in East Hempfield Township.

The company recently was released from a federal consent order that barred it from making business decisions without regulator approval.

The bank opened the loan production office in late 2013.

In another move, M&T Bank is pulling out of a Hanover-area retirement village, while PeoplesBank is getting ready to move right in.

M&T already announced it will close its two retail locations at the Homewood at Plum Creek Retirement Center in Penn Township. The 100 Homewood Way branch will close at noon on Thursday, while the 425 Westminster Ave. location will close at noon on April 24.

The two locations will be consolidated to M&T’s 105 Dart Drive branch, according to Philip Hosmer, an M&T spokesman.

But PeoplesBank President and CEO Larry Miller said his bank has applied to operate a limited services facility in M&T’s old office at 425 Westminster Ave. The application is being considered by the Pennsylvania Department of Banking and Securities.

York Township-based PeoplesBank runs six limited services facilities in the county, Miller said.
