ASSOCIATIONS

Hershey Rotary Club named Robert Evans of Milton Hershey School, Alexandra Seiger of Middletown Area High School and Kabir Singh of Hershey High School its April students of the month. Evans is a member of National Honor Society, the Student Government Association executive cabinet and the football and track and field teams. He plans to study mechanical engineering at Temple University. Seiger is a member of student council, the Key Club and the basketball and volleyball teams. She plans to attend Lancaster General College of Nursing. Singh is a National Merit Scholarship finalist, a member of the Memory Team, the National Honor Society, the National Spanish Honor Society and the varsity tennis team. He plans to study mechanical engineering.

EDUCATION

Millersville University Alumni Association gave Melvin Allen (class of 1969) its 2013 Distinguished Alumni Award. As a student, he founded the Black Student Union, and he was a professor with the philosophy department from 1969 to 2011. Keith Mellinger (’95) received the 2013 Young Alumni Achievement Award. He is an associate professor of mathematics and chairman of the mathematics department with the University of Mary Washington in Virginia, and has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Millersville. Francine G. McNairy, former MU president, received the 2013 Honorary Alumni Award. Throughout her career, she was dedicated to public higher education, the growth and development of students, multiculturalism and civic engagement. Stephen Kepchar Jr. (’70) received the 2013 Outstanding Volunteer Service Award. He was involved in three successive Millersville capital campaigns. He is a senior vice president and wealth adviser with Morgan Stanley Wealth Management in Lancaster and has a degree in economics from Millersville.

HEALTH CARE

The American Heart Association gave 19 Central Pennsylvania companies Fit-Friendly Worksites awards, which recognize companies for carrying out wellness activities such as a company walking program and routes, gym access, allowing staff to wear athletic shoes on designated “sneaker days” or making sure healthy foods and beverages are in company meetings and vending machines. Capital BlueCross of Dauphin County and Schneider Electric of Cumberland County received platinum awards. Amelia’s Grocery Outlet, Franklin & Marshall College, Heart of Lancaster Regional Medical Center, Jerome H. Rhoads Inc., Lancaster Regional Medical Center and St. Anne’s Retirement Community of Lancaster County; Central York School District, Davies Office Furniture, Northern York County School District, Pennex Aluminum Co., WellSpan Health System and WM2 Consortium of York County; Conewago Valley School District of Adams County; Lebanon School District and Lebanon Valley College of Lebanon County; Pennsylvania Medical Society of Dauphin County; and Shippensburg University of Cumberland County received gold awards.
