Jillian Tompkins exited the nursing profession to pursue her dreams of becoming a small businesswoman and found that a California-based company known as Apricot Lane fit the bill. The company appealed to Tompkins, not only for its faith-based philosophy, (God is the chairman of our board reads the website), but also because of its autonomy.

“Each boutique is individually owned and operated, so that each store is completely different from each other,” she said.

Tompkins opened the 1,700-square foot boutique this summer in the Lower Allen Commons on Gettysburg Road near the Trader Joe’s and said that she is happy with the foot traffic the plaza is getting.

Tompkins ticks off a list of brands that she carries that are known in the fashion world: BuddyLove, Good American, Spanx, Dear John Denim, Flying Monkey and Promesa.

“I aim to have a little something for everybody,” she said, adding that mothers and daughters often shop together.

There’s also a charitable side to Apricot Lane.

“We’ve partnered with Noble Venture to sell bracelets that help provide sustainable job opportunities for survivors of human trafficking,” said Tompkins.

The boutique owner said that she is looking forward to welcoming all the holiday and post-holiday shoppers.

“Nothing makes me happier than when someone comes in looking for something and leave happy knowing they found it,” she said.
