A Cumberland County-based engineering firm has joined forces with a California company and made some leadership changes to kick off 2018.
Upper Allen Township-based Advantage Engineers LLC, a firm that specializes in telecommunications, geotechnical and environmental engineering, has merged with Synergy Development Services, a telecommunications engineering and consulting firm in California.
Under the terms of the deal, Synergy will operate as a division of Advantage Engineers. Ryan Shields, who founded Synergy in 2004, will serve as vice president of the Synergy division. Merger costs were not disclosed.
In addition, John McGrath, Advantage’s COO since 2012, has been named the company’s new CEO. He replaces Ed Balsavage, the company’s founder, who will continue to serve as a member of the board of directors.
Advantage and Synergy officials said the merger, which creates a company with more than 300 employees, will help them better serve national and regional customers.
“Synergy has a strong track record of delivering innovative engineering solutions to a complementary customer base,” McGrath said. “Our combined engineering and consulting capabilities will enable us to better serve the country’s leading wireless carriers nationwide.”
Synergy has five other offices in California, Nevada and Montana. Advantage has eight offices, including Pennsylvania locations in Pittsburgh, Allentown and West Chester. Other offices are in New Jersey, Maryland, Colorado and North Carolina.
Advantage finished 2016 with nearly $29 million in revenue, up from about $25 million the previous year thanks to rising construction activity.
