A $7 million expansion and renovation is underway at Penn State Health Medical Group Middletown that will more than double the office’s size.
Penn State Health Medical Group Middletown – located at 3100 Schoolhouse Road in Londonderry Township – is currently home to family medicine and rheumatology services.
The existing practice will be renovated and expanded from 10,000 square feet to 24,000 square feet. The new space will include additional exam space, X-ray services and a walk-in lab, Penn State Health said in a press release.
In addition, the project will add a floor beneath the main floor where the existing practice is located. Ground will be excavated from underneath the main floor to accommodate the new floor, which will become home to Penn State Surgical Weight Loss.
The weight loss center is currently at 4000 Vine St. in Londonderry Township. It offers comprehensive weight management services, including nutritional counseling, medical evaluation, psychiatric evaluation and weight-loss surgery.
Land development started in April, and construction is expected to be completed by fall 2019, the release said. Planning for the project began in 2015.
The expanded facility will be able to accommodate five to seven new full-time providers and up to 14 full-time staff. Not all the additions will be new jobs as some staff may be transferred from other Penn State Health practices, Penn State Health spokeswoman Barbara Schindo said.
Penn State Health is a multi-hospital health system serving patients in 29 counties in Pennsylvania. It has more than 1,400 physicians and direct care providers at 119 medical offices.
