$26M available to manufacturers in federal grant competition

The grant program is meant to bolster innovation-fueled job creation through public-private partnerships, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration.
The agency said about a dozen projects will be chosen for the money based on their ability to grow a region’s industry clusters through:
• Strengthening connections to economic development opportunities and advanced manufacturing assets.
• Enhanced capacity to create high-quality sustainable jobs.
• Developing a skilled and diverse advanced manufacturing work force.
• Increasing exports.
• Encouraging small-business development.
• Accelerating technological innovation.
The competition is funded by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the Department of Energy, Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration and the National Science Foundation.
