Capital BlueCross and Harrisburg University partner on new program
Harrisburg University of Science and Technology and Susquehanna Township-based insurer Capital BlueCross have announced they are partnering on new health care analytics programs.
Starting this spring, HU will offer graduate and undergraduate degrees in health care analytics, which is the use of data such as electronic health records to monitor trends of past behavior, predict future outcomes and help make preemptive medical decisions to improve a person's wellness.
Capital BlueCross is offering what it describes as a structured paid internship program for the students beginning this summer, and said it will consider hiring those who complete the degree and internship successfully.
There is a growing need for health care analytics, due in part to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and its emphasis on electronic health records. Mark Caron, Capital BlueCross senior vice president and chief information officer, called analytics "an essential element to our products and services."
