Troegs moves up to No. 27 among nation's largest craft brewers
Derry Township-based Tröegs Brewing Co. continues to move up the list of the largest craft-beer producers in the country, coming in at No. 27 this year.
The Brewers Association, a Colorado-based trade group, released its annual list of the top 50 breweries of 2018, both craft and overall, based on sales volume. Actual sales figures were not immediately available.
The Brewers Association defines craft breweries as those producing six million barrels of beer or less each year.
Based on the data available, Tröegs was No. 27 on the craft list, up from No. 30 last year.
It was No. 37 among brewers overall. The Dauphin County brewery, which started in Harrisburg in 1997 before moving to the Hershey area in 2011, was No. 40 overall last year.
Of the top 50 overall brewing companies, 40 are craft breweries.
D.G. Yuengling and Son Inc., based in Schuylkill County, topped the 2018 craft brewery list, followed by Boston Beer Co., maker of Samuel Adams, according to the association. Yuengling has been the largest craft-beer producer since 2014.
Sierra Nevada Brewing Co., based in California, was No. 3.
Artisanal Brewing Ventures, fruit of a 2016 merger between Victory Brewing in Downington and Southern Tier Brewing in New York, was No. 11 on this year's list, up from No. 14 last year.
Yuengling is No. 6 among all brewing companies, trailing Anheuser-Busch, MillerCoors, Constellation, Heineken and Pabst Brewing Co. Artisanal was No. 20 overall.
