WellSpan opens Hanover outpatient center
WellSpan Health opened a $52 million medical center in the Hanover area this week, capping off a construction project that began last May.
The WellSpan Health and Surgery Center in Penn Township, York County brings specialty care, surgical suites and lab and imaging services under one roof.
“As the leading provider of advanced specialty care in this community, we feel a deep sense of responsibility to ensure our neighbors here in Hanover have convenient access to the care they need for themselves and their families – close to where they live,” said Roxanna Gapstur, WellSpan Health’s president and CEO.
The two-story, 80,000 square-foot facility at 1227 Baltimore St. houses 13 specialty and primary care services, including family medicine, gastroenterology and OB/GYN. The center is also outfitted with 20 private pre-op and post-op patient rooms, four operating rooms and a 3D mammography machine used for the early detection of cancers.
The project was initially expected to cost $49 million and construction to wrap up by fall 2018, but it was delayed due to issues in the permitting process.
The center is expected to employ 120 people, including physicians, nurses, technicians and other staff, with about half coming from other WellSpan facilities.
“The dedicated and highly skilled physicians, clinicians and care team members who will provide care inside these walls are truly our greatest resource,” Gapstur said.
WellSpan employs over 19,000 people at eight hospitals and more than 170 patient care locations
