Central Pa. franchise companies crack Franchise 500 list
Three midstate franchise companies have claimed spots on Entrepreneur magazine's list of the top 500 franchises.
Soccer Shots Franchising LLC, based in Lower Swatara Township, was the highest on the list, released Tuesday, at No. 245. Hampden Township-based Duck Donuts Franchising Co. followed at No. 247, while Swatara Township-based Arooga's Grille House & Sports Bar was No. 347.
McDonald's topped the franchise list for the second year in a row. Dunkin' was No. 2, followed by Sonic Drive-In, Taco Bell and The UPS Store.
Soccer Shots, which opened a new headquarters last year, has grown to 127 franchisees and 207 franchise territories in 37 states and Canada. Some owners have more than one location.
Soccer Shots offers programs that instruct children ages 2 through 8 in how to play soccer.
Duck Donuts last week opened its first international location with a store in Chile as the company eyes additional growth overseas.
The made-to-order Cumberland County-based doughnut chain is now operating 78 franchise locations, including the new store in Chile.
Ducks Donuts also has 147 additional contracts signed for new locations in 25 states and Chile, as well as plans for Puerto Rico.
Sports bar chain Arooga's, which has 10 corporate owned locations in Central Pennsylvania, has been expanding through franchise growth in recent years. The Dauphin County company now has 20 locations in operations, including franchise restaurants in Connecticut, Florida, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island.
Arooga's has about 100 franchise locations in development.
