Harrisburg-based Quandel Enterprises Inc. has acquired a small bridge contractor to beef up one of its subsidiaries.

Quandel said it purchased Susquehanna Supply Co. Inc., effective Nov. 30, for an undisclosed sum. Susquehanna is now part of Quandel subsidiary Performance Construction Services, which is based in Pottsville, Schuylkill County.

Performance Construction Services is a general contractor specializing in heavy concrete, bridges, dams and wastewater treatment plants.

Susquehanna, which employs four people, has been a part of several high-profile bridge projects in the northcentral and northeastern parts of Pennsylvania, including the Danville River Bridge on Route 54 and nine additional bridges spanning the Susquehanna River.

Quandel officials said the Susquehanna team will be based in Williamsport and will focus on state Department of Transportation projects, including large bridge and highway work.

The Susquehanna team also will help with excavation and foundation support services for Quandel projects, as well as look for opportunities to subcontract those specialty services to other companies.

Greg Quandel, president and CEO of Performance Construction Services, said he hopes to add more field staff to the division and possibly more offices.

He also said that while Susquehanna staff will focus primarily in Williamsport and the northern tier of Pennsylvania, he hopes to begin exploring other construction opportunities for the division in the Harrisburg area.
