UPMC Pinnacle Lancaster closure affects 505 employees
Roughly 500 employees will be affected by the March closure of UPMC Pinnacle Lancaster, according to a notice that the Harrisburg-based health system filed with the state.
UPMC Pinnacle filed the notice Dec. 21 with the state Department of Labor and Industry under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification, or WARN Act.
The notice stated that employees are encouraged to apply for vacant positions at UPMC Pinnacle affiliates, but will not be transferred to other hospitals without first applying. UPMC Pinnacle operates hospitals in Harrisburg, Mechanicsburg, Carlisle, York, Lititz and Hanover.
“Although employees do not have bumping rights into occupied positions, we do have a number of open positions for which many of the affected individuals would qualify,” Ann H. Gormley, senior vice president of human services for UPMC Pinnacle, wrote in the notice. "Employees are being provided notice and are encouraged to apply for vacant UPMC Pinnacle affiliate positions in which to seek a transfer."
UPMC Pinnacle announced the hospital's closure last month. The system said it would be moving inpatient services such as surgical oncology and musculoskeletal tumor services, from Lancaster to UPMC Pinnacle Lititz in Warwick Township. It will continue operating outpatient services in Lancaster city.
UPMC Pinnacle was not immediately available for comment.
