Year-end reflections of a young professional
I know I'm likely the one millionth person to say this but ... 2018 absolutely flew by.
Can you relate?
The end of each year is always a good time for reflection. One part of my year that I'm reflecting on big-time is my work at CPBJ. So much has happened in my role here, some positive, some not-so-ideal, all challenging me to be a better writer, editor, leader and team-member. This year was my first full one at the Business Journal, and of that I am proud. Hitting the one-year mark in a job when you're still early on in your career deserves to be celebrated, wouldn't you say?
Come February 2019, this Young Professionals e-newsletter will be one year old. Do I hear the clinking of happy-hour pint glasses and cocktail tumblers in the near future to celebrate this newsletter's one-year birthday?
I've found myself reflecting on the connections I've made embracing this beat and taking on a responsibility to share the myriad stories of Central Pennsylvania's young professionals. Many, if not all, of us share a common interest in making a difference in our communities through our careers and somehow blending community and career to compliment one another. I've had lots of conversations this past year with young professionals where I lost track of time and couldn't pull myself away to get back to my office. Case in point here ... and here ... and here!
Another highlight of this past year was co-emceeing our annual Forty Under 40 event with my colleague Jason Scott. I really enjoyed meeting many of you in person, putting faces to names and talking with you about all the work you do for your communities.
What are you proud of from this past year, either at work or in your personal life? Maybe you accomplished the nearly impossible feat of sticking to your New Year's resolution from way back in January?
Or here's an even better question for you ... what's next? A goal of mine with the CPBJ Young Professionals initiative was for it to grow beyond just being a monthly e-newsletter with a set lineup of stories. What does that look like? Is it semi-regular meetups? Roundtables with local millennial leaders? More partnerships with regional young professionals organizations? More connections on social media?
