Elmwood Mansion in York County on block for $1.1M
The historic three-story Elmwood Mansion in Spring Garden Township has been listed for sale for $1.1 million.
The 6,500 square-feet masonry building features seven offices, five bathrooms, eight fireplaces, a full kitchen and an apartment. The 2.5-acre property also includes 35 parking spaces and a detached gatehouse.
The mansion has been vacant for six months, but was most recently used by Memorial Hospital as a conference center and apartment space for temporary medical staff. Memorial Hospital purchased the property in 1985 and it received extensive renovations in 1987, said Jack Kay, president and CEO of Susquehanna Real Estate, who has listed the property. UPMC Pinnacle is the current owner.
The property is zoned as A-O or Apartment Office and would be suited for a distinctive office location or stately residence and is a unique opportunity to own a historic, architectural treasure, Kay said.
An open house will be held on Thursday, Oct. 4 from 5 to 7 p.m.
Built in 1835 by Jacob Brillinger, the Greek revival-style building was moved in 1905 from its original location on South Belmont Street to its current spot right off Interstate 83, according to a press release.
The Elmwood Mansion is the first of several Spring Garden Township properties, including Memorial Hospital, that will be put up for sale as the construction of the new UPMC Pinnacle Memorial progresses. The intent is to sell the entire campus on a timeline consistent with completion of the new hospital for a smooth transition, said Kay.
UPMC Pinnacle is building a new hospital and health campus on the site of the former Hawk Lake Golf Course in West Manchester Township. It is slated for completion in summer 2019.
The original Memorial medical campus and six buildings are anticipated to be listed in the summer of 2019 for $7 million, Kay said.
The Memorial Hospital medical campus sits on 10.91 acres on South Belmont Street and consists of a main hospital building, four clinical buildings and a maintenance garage. Located to the south of the main campus is a three-story medical office building that was built in 1987 on a 5.5-acre property.
