York County top private companies: Real estate firms join builders, manufacturers
While York County manufacturing and construction companies dominate the Top 250 List in revenue, firms in real estate, engineering and other industries are gaining.
They are represented by companies like Rock Commercial Real Estate LLC, which was ranked No. 197 with revenue of $4.81 million.
When the business was first established, it had a team of nine. That number has since grown to 30 – half of whom are in roles supporting property managers and advisers, said David L. Bode, managing partner for Rock.
“Last year was our best year financially. The market is very strong,” he said.
The commercial real estate company offers brokerage services, management solutions and strategic consulting as well as research and mapping. The York-based company specializes in office, retail, industrial and investment properties.
Rock has tapped into advancements in GIS mapping and technology that allow it to track consumer habits and spending through a proprietary database. The software allows the firm to break down areas of a market that may have too much retail or not enough.
Bode noted also that Rock has upped its investment in its employees in recent years.
“We do a lot more training now,” he said. The company’s director of operations, for example, does six weeks of one-on-one training with new employees.
When it comes to recruitment, Bode looks for individuals who can help build a team environment and are willing to share information. There are no private offices at Rock’s York or Lancaster offices. The company has also hired professionals with experience in diverse industries, from manufacturing to hospitality, which enriches service to clients in those sectors.
