Highmark Health announced on Wednesday that Dennis P. Brenckle has been named to the board of directors, effective immediately.

Brenckle retired as president of PNC Bank’s central Pennsylvania region after 40 years with PNC, 13 as president and is currently the chair of the Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center’s board of directors.

Brenckle’s addition to Highmark Health’s board reaffirms the health systems’ strategic partnership announced in December, which was created to work toward improving access, quality and affordability of health care for Pennsylvanians.

"He remains chair of the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center Board and obviously has an interest in both organizations remaining successful," said Leilyn Perri, a spokesman for Highmark Health. "We are very pleased to have someone like this who understands the region and with tremendous acumen join the Highmark Health board."

During his time with Penn State Hershey's board, Brenckle has led the "For the Future" campaign launched in 2007, which raised over $306 million for research, education, patient care and community service.

Brenckle also held leadership positions on the advisory boards for Penn State Health’s Four Diamonds mission that aids children and families affected by childhood cancer and Penn State Health’s Cancer Institute.

"Dennis Brenckle brings the Highmark Health board extensive experience in health care and community leadership, as well as banking," said Joseph Guyaux, chairman of the board of Highmark Health. "As Highmark Health and Penn State Health pursue their long-term strategic partnership, Dennis' knowledge and insight will be invaluable to a successful collaboration that continues to deliver high-quality, patient-focused community care that is unsurpassed in service and quality."

Brenckle has also served on the boards for the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts, the PA Partnership for Culture, Health and Education, the Harrisburg Area YMCA, the Harrisburg Regional Chamber and the Capital Regional Economic Development Corporation.
