The developer of a large mixed-use retail and office project in downtown Hershey expects businesses will start opening their doors in the new complex by August.

Wormleysburg-based RVG Management & Development Co. said this week that construction on the more than 90,000-square-foot Hershey Towne Square at 169 W. Chocolate Ave. is winding down. The $25 million development includes about 32,000 square feet of new buildings dedicated for shops and restaurants and about 60,000 square feet of renovated office space in the rear.

Anchored by Delaware-based Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant and Pittsburgh-based Primanti Bros., the retail center will include a Jersey Mike's Subs shop. Other tenants include Iron Valley Real Estate, Great Clips, Tropical Smoothie Cafe, Starbucks, T-Mobile, Happy Nails & Spa, Three Little Birds Boutique, Beef Jerky Outlet, the U.S. Post Office and Freshido, a fast-casual Asian restaurant that opened last year in downtown Harrisburg.

Two other store deals are pending, according to a marketing flyer for the development. Ed Fetter, senior vice president for RVG, said the new buildings will be fully leased by the time they open this summer.

Iron Hill, which announced plans for the center in March, will occupy the largest space, at about 9,000 square feet. But Iron Hill isn't expected to open until late 2018 or early 2019.

RVG bought the former Hershey post office property in 2016 after a previous owner was unable to restructure financing for the nearly five-acre project.

Jobs, more choice, aesthetically nice, as long as they figure out the new traffic problems quickly this is going to create, great growth for downtown. Still want to see a Hershey Aquarium by the Silos to rival or even surpass all others. Centrally located within a day-trip distance of major urban areas on all sides and corners it would be a crowning jewel to the Hershey Entertainment Family. We are a growing job and entertainment town... this would be a huge and successful addition to the family atmosphere of Hershey.
