Carrying on the legacy: Mary Brown continues on as CEO, president of Brown's Orchards

By ,

Mary Brown has taken the reins as the president and CEO of Brown's Orchards & Farm Market in southern York County.

Brown took over as president of the family-owned Brown's Orchards of Springfield Township following the death of her husband, Dave Brown. He was 53 when he suffered a heart attack earlier this year.

“Her love of these orchards and passion to see Dave’s dream continue to grow is helping her heal,” the business wrote in a post on Facebook on Tuesday.

Founded by Earl and Margaret Brown in 1948, Brown’s has transformed from a roadside stand into one of the region’s top family destinations for produce, homemade baked goods and gifts.

Dave’s father Stan, son of Earl and Margaret and often referred to as the family patriarch, passed away last year after a long battle with cancer.

Dave, the third-generation owner of the business, took over as the president in 2012. During that time, Mary Brown held the title of vice president and treasurer.

A native of Chicago, Mary Brown holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and public accounting from Loyola University Chicago and The John Marshall Law School.

“We are all very blessed to have her compassion, skills and talents here at Brown’s as she leads this business forward,” the business said on Facebook.

I first got to know Browns when I started dating my York native wife 35-plus years ago. I am really glad that Brown's is continuing although let it be said that I wish Brown's would expand to the Harrisburg area, maybe at the West Shore Farmer's Market in Lemoyne.
