United Disabilities Services Foundation has moved.

An expiring lease at its former location, 1901 Olde Homestead Lane in East Lampeter Township, and the need for more space, all factored into the foundation's decision to move.

"We wanted the opportunity to invest in our 'own' building, affording us more space - room to grow - and where the majority of our programs can be housed under one roof allowing for more productive team collaboration," said Nancy McCormick, vice president of business development at United Disabilities Services

At its new headquarters, located at 2270 Erin Court in East Hempfield Township, the nonprofit plans to expand its care management, mobility, rehab and service dog training programs along with its custom wheelchairs, home modifications and training services.

United Disabilities Services helps the aging, veterans and people with disabilities live safely and more independently in their own homes.

The organization's new home was previously owned by Lancaster County and had been vacant for several years. The company spent six months renovating the building. Completed in March, the project began last October, McCormick said.

Brownstown-based Benchmark Construction Co. Inc., managed the renovations, the cost of which were not disclosed.

In addition to its new building, a larger staff may be on the horizon for the non-profit.

"In our new home, the additional space will enable us to expand a number of our programs and help more clients. By doing so, we expect our employee base to grow an additional 5 percent over the next few years," McCormick said.
