As a flight attendant, Jacqueline Bortner is used to dreaming high.

This Friday, she’ll make her dream of opening her own boutique a reality.

Following a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 5 p.m. Friday, Bortner will officially usher in patrons to her new 57 N. Beaver St. shop, Kaletta’s.

"It’s exciting to be part of the renaissance taking place in downtown York," Bortner said in a statement.

Opening in the space formerly occupied by longtime York gift shop Kimman’s, Kaletta’s will offer a selection of home décor, jewelry and accessories, and items for babies.

To showcase the store’s available fashions, which Bortner describes as trendy and classic, live models will exhibit the designs created by Lancaster designer Kathy Frey on Friday for York's First Friday events. The creator of the Selga clothing line will also be on hand to discuss her work.

In reflecting an energetic arts scene and the opening of modern loft-style apartments like REVI Flats, Bortner said she hopes to attract shoppers seeking a special touch.

Since Kimman’s closed its doors at the end of February, Bortner said the boutique has been undergoing some much-needed renovations.

"I’m restoring the space to yesteryear as I think it is a treasure to York and should be showcased on the corner of Philadelphia and Beaver Streets," she said.

Inside, the shop has chandeliers and a chalkboard barn door as well as a barn-wood wall with timber collected from Maryland farms. Outside, the building has new awnings.

Silas Chamberlin, CEO of Downtown Inc, described the Beaver Street corridor where Kaletta’s resides as a hallmark of the city’s boutique shopping district, to which he credits in part to when Kimman's first opened its doors in 2004.

"Kaletta’s will reinforce Downtown York’s status as the creative hub of York County with another one-of-a-kind shopping experience," Chamberlin said.

In conjunction with the opening, Kaletta’s will be raffling off prizes Friday and Saturday.

Kaletta’s will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday; and noon to 4 p.m. on Sundays. On First Fridays, the shop will remain open until 9 p.m.
