Prominent Harrisburg-area law firm Goldberg Katzman is closing its doors at the end of the month.

Maureen Scarazzo, office manager at Goldberg Katzman, confirmed Thursday that the firm is winding down operations. Its last day will be Feb. 28.

Scarazzo deferred additional questions to Golberg Katzman attorney Thomas Weber, who was not immediately available for comment.

The law firm, based in Lower Paxton Township, has been a pillar in the legal community for 58 years. In 2007 the firm represented Harrisburg City Council against former Mayor Stephen Reed.

In 2010 then-Goldberg Katzman attorney Royce Morris represented Ray George Thompson, the son of former Harrisburg Mayor Linda Thompson, after he was charged with rape. Morris is now Dauphin County judge.

Another Golberg Katzman attorney Josh Lock, has been one of the top criminal defense lawyers in the state for some time. Lock represented Joe Paterno in the Sandusky grand jury.

Most of the firm’s 11 attorneys are dispersing.

One, a nationally known litigator for medical malpractice, April Strang-Kutay this week opened her own practice.

Heather Paterno said she will continue on as a solo practitioner working in family law and advocacy for children in dependency matters.

Five attorneys at Goldberg Katzman are joining the law offices of Caldwell & Kearns, a real estate and business firm based in Susquehanna Township. Thomas Brenner, Paul Esposito, Joseph Sembrot, Thomas Webber and Kate Peters will all be joining the firm, said Peter Good, a shareholder at Caldwell & Kearns.

As of Thursday afternoon, there was no word on plans for the remaining four attorneys at Goldberg Katzman.
