The one word Brian J. Ostella would use to describe himself is “ambitious.” He is motivated by the next challenge around the corner: to see the challenge, plan to overcome it and achieve the goal. He finds testing his limits a valuable way to learn, and his colleagues would note he is someone who is always ready to help solve the next challenge. If he were a smartphone app, he would be an encyclopedia: he loves being able to talk about new things he has learned. He is very passionate about Harrisburg and the city’s potential. To Ostella, it is one of the best places to live, work and play. His biggest success so far has been co-leading the 2010 imPAct Conference in Harrisburg, a weekend conference for 300 young professionals from around Pennsylvania. It featured great speakers, including Governor Rendell, and was the culmination of a year of hard work. The best mistake he ever made was missing a class during his year with Leadership Harrisburg. He was invited to make up the class the next year, and that’s where he met his wife! If Ostella could pass one piece of advice along to others, it would be that leadership doesn’t come from gaining a title, a large salary or a public platform, but from getting people to be passionate about your vision.
