Pa. unemployment creeps higher

Pennsylvania's unemployment rate rose slightly in December, the first monthly increase since May, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry.

The rate was 4.7 percent in December, up from 4.6 percent in November. The U.S. unemployment rate was 4.1 percent in December.

The number of jobs, however, increased, according to L&I. The biggest gains came in leisure and hospitality, which added 7,300 jobs in December.

Trade, transportation and utilities shed the most, losing 4,300 jobs for the month.
