Camp Hill developer makes family leadership change
The next generation of the Jordan family is now leading Camp Hill-based Smith Land & Improvement Corp. as part of a family transition plan.
Richard Jordan III, who had been serving as COO of the family-owned real estate and development company, has been named president and CEO, effective immediately.
He has been with the company since 1994 and represents the third generation of Jordans and fourth generation overall to lead the company, which is celebrating 100 years in business.
He replaces his father, Richard Jordan II, who will remain chairman of the company. The elder Jordan had been serving in the three roles since 1992.
Luther B. Smith founded the company in 1918. It now encompasses the commercial real estate corporation and a subsidiary, L.B. Smith Ford Lincoln Inc.
The company recently bought the south side of the 1800 block of Market Street in Camp Hill for redevelopment this year. The properties sit across the street from the company's headquarters at 1810 Market St.
"These are exciting times to be in land development and to reimagine and redevelop properties for the highest and best use of every asset — our people, new technologies, job growth — and ultimately to strengthen our communities," the younger Jordan said in a statement.
