Plans take shape for warehouse on Fairview Township tract off I-83
Planning is under way for a small warehouse project along the northbound side of Interstate 83 in northern York County.
The 22-acre site on Old York Road in Fairview Township is between exits 35 and 36 of I-83 near Hillside Cafe. It has recently been cleared to pave the way for future development.
Marketing materials from Cushman & Wakefield show plans for a 240,000-square-foot speculative warehouse on the site, which could be built by the end of 2018. Listing agent Gerry Blinebury was not immediately available for comment.
John Luciani, president of York-based First Capital Engineering Inc., is one of the engineers on the project. He said the plan is to begin the land development approval process with the township in early 2018.
The developer of the tract is Jerry Watson, president of Manchester Township-based Keystruct Construction Inc., who was not immediately available for comment.
The Old York Road site is close to an Amazon facility and FedEx hub, and it is not far from the Pennsylvania Turnpike, making it attractive for more industrial development.
Numerous warehouses and distribution centers have sprung up along the I-83 corridor in recent years, particularly south of Fairview Township in neighboring Manchester and East Manchester townships.
The growing industrial demand also has been attracting investors. The Fairview Industrial Park sold earlier this year for $11.8 million.
