Starting Jan. 1, Cumberland County-based Giant Food Stores will have a new parent

Ahold Delhaize, the Dutch company that owns Giant Food, has formed a new parent company for its U.S. businesses: Ahold Delhaize USA.

The CEO of the new company will be Kevin Holt, who is currently COO of Ahold USA and formerly CEO of Delhaize America. Royal Ahold and Delhaize Group merged in 2016.

Under the umbrella of Ahold Delhaize USA will be a number of brands, including Stop & Shop, Food Lion, Giant, Hannaford, Giant/Martin's and Peapod, as well as a unit called Retail Business Services, a shared-services company created to provide support to the company's brands and help them develop strategies tailored to their local markets.

"I'm excited that we are moving into this next phase where we can focus on further strengthening our brands and winning in our markets," Holt said in a news release. "Ahold Delhaize USA and its U.S. brands are well positioned to continue to drive growth and innovation and meet the evolving needs of customers, both in stores and online."

Before joining Ahold Delhaize, Holt served in executive leadership roles at Supervalu and Meijer, a Michigan-based retailer.
