York revitalization reflected in first Appell leadership award
The nonprofit group 10,000 Friends of Pennsylvania has selected RSDC Inc. as the recipient of the Louis J. Appell Jr. Leadership Award.
The Appell award is the highest honor given by the statewide nonprofit to private-sector companies. It's part of the 2017 Commonwealth Awards program run by the nonprofit.
RSDC, formerly known as Royal Square Development & Construction, has been behind several York redevelopment projects during the past few years.
Named in honor of philanthropist and 10,000 Friends’ founding board member Louis J. Appell Jr., the Appell award recognizes outstanding private-sector leadership and innovative investment promoting transformational and replicable community revitalization.
Other award recipients are:
- Platinum Commonwealth Award to Think Loud Development for the adaptive reuse of a factory at 210 York St. into a state-of-the-art recording studio and commercial space.
- PNC Opportunity for All Awards: Salem Square Neighborhood Initiative and the Homes at Thackston Park.
- Awards will also be given to Warehaus at NW Triangle, Yohn Properties, Distinct Property Management, Better York, York County Community Foundation, Downtown Inc and project partners, City of York and the York College Center for Community Engagement.
"Downtown York’s revitalization is a potential blueprint for every smaller, formerly industrial city in the U.S.," said Caroline Boyce, Friends’ board chair. The award celebration will be held tomorrow night at The Bond event space in downtown York.
