The owner of the Shoppes at Cedar Cliff in Lower Allen Township is hoping to open a new Starbucks in the retail center by next summer.

A site plan for a 2,100-square-foot drive-thru Starbucks is being submitted to the township as part of a redevelopment effort at the shopping center off Interstate 83 and Carlisle Road near Cedar Cliff High School.

York County-based Penn State Management, part of Penn State Investment Group, signed a lease earlier this year with Starbucks to build the coffee shop on the front pad at 1106 Carlisle Road, currently home to Crown Trophy and SmileCrafters Orthodontics.

In August, the township gave conditional approval to a land development plan for the new use on the site, but no applications have been submitted to demolish the existing building or to construct the new building.

Ryan Nelson, a listing broker for Penn State Management, said his company is in the process of relocating SmileCrafters back into the main mall building. Once that is complete, he said, the owner will move forward with the demolition on the pad site. Construction of the Starbucks would follow.

"Realistically we're looking at a summer 2018 opening," he said.

The pad is next to a busy McDonald's off the I-83 exit.
